Our community has supported our family business for four generations

And we’re grateful for the relationships we’ve built with so many families over the years – in many cases several generations of families.

We feel a strong connection with our neighbors and our community, and it gives us a great sense of happiness when we’re able to give back to our community.

While we’re not a pizzeria that can do something as fun as sending pies to a local elementary school, there are still some fun and meaningful programs that we’ve been honored to participate in over the years.

Herricks Valet & Carle Place Valet

In 2015 the Carle Place School District reached out to us for what would turn out to be the beginning of a very special project indeed. They were looking to create a new program for their life skills class for students with special needs.

Together, we designed a partnership where their students could operate a mini dry cleaning pickup store in their classroom, servicing any faculty that would like to participate in the program. We provided equipment and supplies such as rolling racks, bagging dispensers, jack stands, plastic garment bags, laundry bags, blank carbon copy tickets, and paper mark-in tags.

After that, we stopped by twice a week to pick up any dirty clothes they collected from faculty.

Then, the most fun part of the project was getting together with the students and teaching them how to write dry cleaning tickets, check-in garments, and attach mark-in tags to each garment. We all had such a blast!

We’d clean and press their garments, and then deliver them back to the students.

But when we delivered the clothing back, we’d mix everything up so the students would have to rely on the paper tags they attached to each garment to figure out who they belong to, sort and assemble the clothes back into separate orders for each faculty member, then bag the orders in plastic using the bagging jacks we donated.

The students love it and so do we, it’s great fun! Not long after the program was established at Carle Place School District, the Herricks School District heard about the program and wanted to do the same for their students. We’ve been working with both school districts ever since, and it’s been a truly enjoyable and rewarding experience. We’re so grateful that they came up with this creative idea and invited us to be included.

COVID-19 Facemasks Project

When the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, there was lots of uncertainty. Businesses were shut down, putting some of our neighbors and friends out of work. Of course we were struggling too – who needed dry cleaning when nobody was dressing up or going to work? Nobody was even leaving home, everyone was in their pajamas! Maybe it was just to keep our sanity, but we wanted to do something helpful and productive with our time.

When facemasks were hard to come by, we realized we could sew facemasks for the people in our community. Clients and strangers alike.

And to keep everyone’s spirits up, we asked that they provide a shirt with some meaning to them, some personality. Something with a fun design or logo or saying. And we’d turn it into a facemask for them, for free.

We even picked up the material from their homes and delivered the facemasks back to them if they weren’t comfortable coming into our store.

Throughout the early months of the pandemic we made countless masks, and some of the designs really turned out to be very cool and creative. It was a tiny bit of light in a pretty dark time of our history, and we really have to thank our community for all the support and positivity we received during those times.

Hector Gayle Community Center Annual Coat Drive

We were delighted when the Friedmann family reached out to us with the opportunity to assist in the Hector Gayle Community Center Annual Coat Drive. It was our pleasure to clean the collected coats before they were distributed to our neighbors in need. The whole process was such a positive experience, and we look forward to continuing this partnership going forward!
